Attack of the spambots?
I logged into the forums today and noticed that there are 250+ members shown in the statistics at the bottom of the page. Something didn't seem right with that large of a number and how few postings there are.

So I pulled up the member list and it looks like there is a ton of registered accounts with 0 activity and most of them haven't been online since the account was created.

Not necessarily anything fishy about that, but the spammy part comes when you go and look at their profiles and nearly all of them have generic garbage for information but they include urls to other web sites.

Something makes me think that there's some spammyness to it all. Now I guess it isn't really harming anything, but it just seems like there is something/someone up to no good. I'd hate to see this place turn into some sort of bot cesspool or something.

I figured I'd bring it up in case anyone cares to look into it.

Cheers!
Joe

RE: Attack of the spambots?
This is one of a dozen or so forums I manage, and yes, I'd bet that the majority of the members are spammers in waiting. A lot of the members aren't even activated and from time to time I will go through and weed the non-activated accounts out.

It's a pain...
